Unhealthy in the UK

    I thought the UK was a healthy country, but it seems we’re not doing so well.

    In a recent study, scientists analysed the health of 19 European countries. The UK only ranked 12th, with a particularly high death toll from diseases associated with avoidable risk factors such as smoking and obesity. If healthcare in the UK matched some other European countries, 30,000 deaths could be avoided.

    There’s no doubt something needs to change. Maybe we should have compulsory checkups…

The study used 20 years of data from 1990 to 2010 and was carried out by experts from the UK and the University of Washington.
