Gas-powered future

  • December 4, 2012 | Rohan

Despite climate change experts advising against it, the UK is going to build a lot more gas power stations. What’s strange is that our North Sea gas source is running out, so you’d think we’d want to rely less on gas…

Unless there are plans for ‘fracking’ of course, where underground rocks are blown up to release trapped gas. In the US this has caused water pollution and even mini earthquakes. If the UK goes ahead with fracking let’s hope that doesn’t happen here too.

Why can’t we stick with clean, safe nuclear and renewable energy?

Gas power station

The UK could become a key exporter of shale gas to Europe, putting financial interests ahead of our environment.

When my sons were tiny in 1978, CO2 was 330ppm. Now in 2012 we have a new granddaughter and CO2 is 390ppm. I wish to grow old knowing she and her children will continue to relish and enjoy our glorious living earth. Burning more fossil fuels is just insanity. We reduced our own CO2 footprints to 30% of the average–fun & satisfying! Please, please can’t the UK show the world how to live without fossil fuels?
