Power dressing

  • July 11, 2012 | Pippa

My phone is always running out of battery when I’m on the go. A new innovation could help to keep me charged up.

Scientists have managed to adapt an ordinary T-shirt so it can store energy. Soaking it in fluoride and baking it changed the chemical make-up of the cotton. This allowed the T-shirt to store and release energy but remain flexible so it could still be worn.

Does this mean we’ll choose our clothes in the morning depending on how much power we’ll need that day?

The technology also has the potential to create bendy batteries for flexible devices.
