Sponge soaks up greenhouse gas

  • June 13, 2012 | Elise

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that’s contributing to our changing climate, so it’s vital we try to trap and store it. This isn’t easy!

Researchers have developed a sponge-like material that soaks up carbon dioxide. This smart material is made of two structures that fit together to create tiny pores perfect for capturing the molecules. It’s also great at storing the gas.

I wonder how long it will be before these ‘sponges’ are capturing carbon dioxide from power plants and factories…
