The pregnancy diet

  • May 18, 2012 | Lucy

Folk wisdom says that pregnant women should eat for two. Now a new review of research suggests a ‘healthy diet’ during pregnancy. Half of the UK population are overweight, and 20–40% of women gain more weight than recommended during their pregnancy. This can lead to complications.

Looking at 44 past studies covering over 7000 women, the review concluded that preventing excessive weight gain during pregnancy reduces the chance of complications.

I guess if ‘dieting’ actually means ‘eating a good range of foods and not over eating’ then yes, I agree. I think the word ‘diet’ sends people into a spin though.
