Older dads, longer-living kids

  • June 12, 2012 | Anna

We all want to live longer. Now a study at Northwestern University in the US suggests that older dads may give rise to kids who do just that.

Changes to the genetic material within a man’s sperm cells as he ages are passed on to his children. These changes have been linked to longer life spans and other health benefits. And it isn’t just older dads – an older grandad can also increase your chances of living a longer life. But do the benefits outweigh the increased risk of miscarriage, DNA damage and growing up with a less active dad?
