Obliterating obesity

  • January 7, 2013 | Rohan

What’s your new year resolution? Many people try shedding the Christmas pounds, but I think it might take more than a few short-lived diets to reduce the country’s high rates of obesity.

Obesity costs the NHS £5 billion a year, so the government and some supermarkets have teamed up to make some colourful TV ads to promote healthy eating.

This sounds like a nice idea, but critics point out that companies will still sell unhealthy food, and say laws should be stricter instead.

One strategy to decrease obesity might be to normalise exercise. moving is as necessary as food, water, shelter ans love.
What I have noticed has been “normalised” is crisps, chocolate nad alcohol – have a look at your supermarkets. An entire aisle for confectionary tells customers “it is normal to buy at least one thing from this aisle”. But crisps, confectionary and alcohol are “sometimes” or “rarely” foods – not lunch!
30 minute moving (2 hours for kids) . Just have to find whatis fun. Promoting healthy lifestyle choices would help decrease obesity. Good Luck
