An app-titude for good government?

  • November 8, 2012 | Ling

The Number 10 Dashboard is now in the Prime Minister’s hands. Developed by the Cabinet Office digital team, this app collects and presents live data from various sources and monitors the PM’s standing within the social media sphere. It also updates him on the progress of government initiatives.

My cynical question is, how will David Cameron and other politicians use this information? Will the app help them make better decisions for us, or for themselves? Is this a clever way of getting them to listen to us, or a way for them to keep a watchful eye on us?

The app, which is still being tested, monitors data and trends from sources such as the Office of National Statistics, YouGov, job and housing sites, Google, Twitter and Facebook.
