I think it's brave to decide to spend money on long-term research projects.

The Sentinel satellite that went into orbit this week cost billions of Euros. It's on an EU mission to collect images of the Earth. With its sister satellite, it can make a detailed map of Earth in just six days. This data can help us with lots of things such as understanding air quality, surveying icebergs or monitoring crops.

I know it's expensive, but I'd say this information is well worth having in the long run.

Are satellites such as Sentinel worth the money?

Every day the satellites will create the same amount of data as in 250,000 photos.
