What makes a good musical performance? It's all about the songs, right?

Maybe not… Psychologist Chia-Jung Tsay has discovered we care more about looks. But our evaluation has nothing to do with how ‘attractive' the performer is. Rather, we rate a performance based on the musician's body language and display of feeling. Good performers, Tsay says, know the visual experience is just as important as the sound.

I've always been a lousy singer. But maybe if I put on a good enough show, no-one will notice!
