Wind turbines are a familiar sight across the UK. Now Scotland is taking turbine tech further Scottish waters will soon be home to Europe's biggest tidal turbine array.

The tidal turbines, each with a rotor 18 metres across, will capture energy from fast-flowing waters off the northeast mainland. Eventually the array could power up to 42,000 Highland homes.

Sounds impressive… But to get the most from renewables, we need to develop ways to store and transport the energy created. That's the big challenge for our engineers.
