I can't imagine how nerve-racking waiting for an organ transplant must be. Organs such as livers can only be transplanted within 24 hours.

Experiments with rats have found a way to keep a liver usable for up to three days. The organ is kept very cool and pumped with nutrients and oxygen. The researchers hope their techniques could eventually be used in human organ transplants.

This research is in its very early stages, but I really hope it might one day help make the process easier for patients.

More experiments are needed to see if the technology can be used to preserve a human liver.
