How many jet engines does it take to fly a plane? Zero, as long as you cover the wings with 12,000 solar cells... The Solar Impulse HB-SIA, a completely solar-powered aircraft, landed in New York yesterday and set a new world record for the greatest distance ever covered in a manned solar-powered flight.

I'd still like to see more people invest in solar-powered technology. It's clean, sustainable and shining bright. The only drawback for now? The plane has a top speed of only 70 km per hour slower than most cars!

How do you feel about solar-powered vehicles?

The solar cells charge 400 kg of lithium-ion batteries for night flying.
