Our brains are extremely complicated, so I was incredibly surprised to hear that scientists at the Austrian Academy of Sciences have grown miniature human brains in the lab. But my initial scepticism was unfounded. The mini brains resemble those of nine-week-old fetuses and have some important brain structures.

The scientists hope their research will provide insight into developmental diseases, but the mini brains are still a long way from being exact models of a mature human brain. So no need to worry about lab-grown humanoids taking over the world just yet!
