I love lasers, and I love clean energy… Researchers in the US have combined the two in a brilliant breakthrough. They used lasers to heat a hydrogen fuel pellet to millions of degrees Celsius and started the world's first successful fusion reaction. This means the fuel gave off more energy than it absorbed.
Physicists have tried to achieve this for years, but haven't been able to until now. Hopefully it will encourage more funding into nuclear fusion. The world needs it.
