Would you take a medical test even if the results could scare you? I'd want to know what the results mean for me first. For instance, there's a blood test that can identify a genetic risk of getting heart disease.

The test, which is going to be offered to more people in England, checks for an inherited condition causing high levels of cholesterol. If it isn't diagnosed or treated before the age of 60 there's a high risk of developing heart disease.

Early diagnosis means earlier treatment, advice and monitoring, which I think can really help.

In the UK nearly 320,000 people have the inherited condition familial hypercholesterolaemia, which can be easily treated.
