Doctors have found that weak grip strength could indicate poor heart health. For every 5 kg decrease in grip strength they found the odds of an early death increased by 16%. This might be because muscle strength is reduced by hardening arteries, the result of a weak heart.

So measuring grip strength could help improve predictions on heart health. But more research is needed to understand this link. I'd like to know if building your grip strength could improve your heart too.
