The earliest moments of human life are mysterious, but now that UK scientists will be allowed to genetically modify embryos, we can find out more about how we develop.

Scientists have permission to make changes to the DNA of early embryos. This will teach us more about miscarriages and infertility, and how embryos develop into babies.

Some people are worried that the research might lead to a world where we 'design' babies by making changes to DNA. But I think it's important if it will improve our understanding of where we all come from.

Scientists in China have already performed this type of research, but this is a first for the UK and the rest of the world.
