Friends are like family to me and apparently we might be just as close.

Researchers in the US claim that we are more genetically similar to our friends than to strangers. They found that friends share about 0.1% more DNA - the same expected for fourth cousins.

However, their claims are being disputed. Some scientists say the results could be affected by other factors, such as ethnicity or similar interests.

Either way, I think it doesn't change how important friends are.
