Dark matter features prominently in the sci-fi programmes I watch. But in reality we don't have much proof it exists.

Researchers have set up an experiment a mile underground to see if they can spot dark matter as it passes through the Earth. They hope to detect rare collisions between dark matter particles and regular particles.

Whether they find dark matter or not in the next year, I think this will be a fascinating leap forward in our understanding of the universe.
