I've always wondered if there's life in outer space. Thanks to a new initiative launched by the Royal Society and backed by Professor Stephen Hawking, the answer might be closer than I thought.

Over ten years, a team of scientists will use two of the world's most powerful telescopes to listen for transmissions coming from a million different stars. They hope that among these signals there might be signs of intelligent extraterrestrial life.

But I do wonder if they'll actually find anything...
