Melt outs methane

    Like many people, I find methane gas useful for cooking my dinner in the evening.

    But climate scientists are worried about the amount of methane being released as Arctic ice melts. Researchers now have a better understanding of how much of this gas comes from long-term storage. Their findings raise concerns about accelerated climate change.

    As methane, like carbon dioxide, is a greenhouse gas, its presence speeds up global warming. This in turn melts Arctic ice faster, which releases yet more methane…
