Processed meat in moderation

  • March 8, 2013 | Elise

I love a bacon sandwich, but a study of half a million people suggests eating processed meat may increase the risk of dying young. Researchers said even after risk factors such as smoking and obesity were accounted for, processed meat still damaged health. Salt and preservatives are the likely culprits.

Luckily for meat lovers, experts say a little bit of meat, even processed meat, can be good for you. So I won’t give up my bacon sarnies just yet, but maybe restrict them to a Sunday morning treat.

Two sausages and a slice of bacon a day is too much processed meat.
