Scared to death

  • January 30, 2013 | Rohan

Sometimes it can feel like there’s nothing worse than being embarrassed. Of course cancer is far worse. Yet, believe it or not, researchers have found that some Britons are too embarrassed to visit their doctor.

They also found that a third of people are scared of wasting a doctor’s time, and hold off getting their symptoms checked. This might be why the UK has lower cancer survival rates than other developed countries with equally good healthcare.

Personally I’d be straight down the doctor’s if I thought I had a cancer symptom!

British politeness and reserve could explain why many older people avoid going to their doctor if they are unwell.
