I spy with my bionic eye…

  • May 4, 2012 | Lucy

How good is your eyesight? Would a bionic eye make it better? Researchers have fitted two blind men with implants that let them see shapes for the first time in decades.

The microchips in their eyes have 1500 light-sensitive pixels, which doesn’t sound much when you consider the average camera phone has 5 million. But it’s enough to produce basic images. As light enters the eye, it reaches the chip and then sends the images to the brain via the optic nerve.

The men can now see well enough to be more independent.
