Stay alive without breathing

  • June 29, 2012 | Lucy

Can you hold your breath for 15 minutes? Scientists have developed an injection that could make this possible, and it may be vital in life-threatening situations.

They tested the injection on rabbits with blocked windpipes – oxygen went directly into the bloodstream. The rabbits  stayed alive for 15 minutes without taking a single breath.

Experts hope this will help during cardiac arrests and reduce the risk of brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation.
