Tau Ceti’s five planets

  • December 19, 2012 | Pippa

I think Earth is a great place to live, but what are my other options?

Scientists have spotted five planets orbiting around our nearest Sun-like star, Tau Ceti. And one of them is in the ‘habitable zone’ where water can exist as a liquid.

When a planet orbits a star, it tugs on the star a tiny bit. By measuring these tiny movements, scientists can detect a planet without seeing it directly.

Sadly Tau Ceti is 12 light years from our Solar System, so I won’t be visiting any time soon.
