Vaccine for deadly virus on hold

  • August 15, 2012 | Pippa

Ebola is the deadliest virus in the world. I’d hope that producing a vaccine would be a priority. But the US government think differently – they’ve just stopped funding Ebola vaccine research.

Scientists think they can get a vaccine on the market in five years, but not without extra money.

Ebola outbreaks usually only affect small groups of people, but worryingly the virus could be turned into a biological weapon.

With no profit to be made the private sector can’t help. I think research for the good of the public needs government backing.
