Being woken by a whiff of wasabi is unpleasant. The Ig Nobel prize-winning wasabi fire alarm shocks the senses and can't be ignored. It could protect people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Why would you want a sting to wake you up? It’s very painful!

On the surface it seems like a novelty item, however it has the potential to save lives. Just think, how many mornings have you woken up to discover you’ve slept through your alarm?

Wasabi doesnt seem as effective,if it will take an entire 3 mins to wake a person up…I’d much rather a sound alarm.

I think it is a good idea because everyone, no matter what their ability, should have access to devices which can save lives.

What if you’re deaf, blind and you have a really blocked nose? Would the Wasabi still penetrate your senses?
