Test-tube eye

  • April 7, 2011 | Alex

Here’s a news story that caught my eye. Terrible puns aside, the news that scientists have grown part of a mouse’s eye could offer hope to people who are blind or partially sighted.

Scientists grew part of an eye, a retina, by manipulating stem cells found in mice. If they can find a way of using this technique on human cells they may be able to grow replacement parts for our eyes!

This research appears in the 6 April 2011 issue of the journal Nature.
