Changing tide?

  • March 17, 2011 | James

As an island nation we’re surrounded by water that could provide lots of clean energy. Our shores are struck by waves and tides whoosh in and out. I often wonder why we don’t make more use of them. Well now the Scottish government has approved plans for ten tidal turbines, which will generate enough electricity to power more than 5000 homes. And because around a quarter of Europe’s potential tidal energy is off Scotland’s coast, there are plans for even bigger schemes. With more action like this, perhaps the risks that come with nuclear power could be avoided?
