Old mice made young again

  • November 28, 2010 | Louis

Would you take a drug that made you ten years younger? I’m not sure I would, but I’ve been thinking about it since I read that scientists have reversed the ageing process in mice.

In a study out today, researchers made mice lacking an enzyme called telomerase. This meant the mice aged faster than usual, but when telomerase was added their bodies became young and healthy again.

Some scientists hope telomerase could be used in people, but others are worried that telomerase is linked to cancer.
