Drugs help prevent HIV infection

    It’s a ground-breaking study I hope will save many lives. For the first time a daily pill has been shown to protect people from HIV infection.

    Men at high risk of HIV infection were given a pill containing either antiretroviral drugs or a placebo. During the study, 64 of the men taking the placebo became infected with HIV, but only 36 of those who had taken the drug tested positive.

The results of the study are encouraging, but experts say that drugs alone will not stop the spread of HIV.
