Stem cells for spinal injuries

  • October 12, 2010 | Amy

For the first time doctors will use embryonic stem cells to treat patients with spinal injuries. If successful, this treatment could help paralysed patients to move again and would be a huge medical advance.

The use of these stem cells is controversial because they come from human embryos. Admittedly, they’re spare ones created through IVF that are donated for medical research. But I’m not sure I’d want cells from my own embryos to be used in this way. How about you?
