Retina rehab

  • August 14, 2012 | David

The thought of losing my eyesight worries me sometimes, but many people already live with impaired vision. A new prosthetic retina may help them to see.

The artificial retina works by mimicking the coded information a healthy eye sends to the brain. Researchers who developed it have shown their technique can help mice ‘see’ a two-dimensional image.

I wonder if prosthetic retinas will ever equal, or better, our normal vision. Imagine buying a set of eagle eyes at the optician!
