Stress gives brain the blues

  • June 26, 2012 | David

The last thing I need when I’m stressed is for parts of my brain to stop working! But that’s the worrying finding from a group of scientists exploring the link between stress and depression. The team discovered that chronic stress can make your brain lose its ‘plasticity’ – its ability to reorganise and reshape itself to make new connections.

Fortunately, the scientists also worked out a way of helping stressed brains to recover and keep their ordinary, healthy functions. They hope their research will lead to new approaches for treating people with depression.

Very interesting, I have had periods of depression and they have always been during very stressful life events, death, births, house moving, relasionship breakdowns.
