Higgs boson – one step closer?

  • December 13, 2011 | Stuart

As a physicist, I’m excited about a big announcement coming from CERN this afternoon. Science Museum sources agree with others that scientists will say they are one step closer to finding the Higgs boson – the missing link in particle physics.

It’s expected that particle detectors have picked up a signal that could be the Higgs boson. The results will need to be analysed and repeated before scientists can announce with certainty that they’ve spotted the Higgs boson – the particle that gives mass. Heavy!

We interviewed the man who put the ‘Higgs’ in the Higgs boson – Peter Higgs. Follow the link to see what he has to say about CERN’s impending discovery.

It’s not easy to find the “God Particle” in a body that has been destroyed. It is easier to find it in a living body. It’s just a little spark of energy with the knowledge of the universe within it. It’s that little spark of energy that makes things live. You might find it some day and prove me right.
