Daily exercise extends life

  • August 16, 2011 | Alex

Exercise is good for you – everyone’s known that for a long time, right? But it turns out doing as little as 15 minutes of daily exercise could extend your life by up to three years.

The research is based on data from 400,000 people in Taiwan. It shows that doing just 15 minutes per day or 90 minutes per week of moderate exercise could extend your life and reduce your risk of death by 14%. It also found people who start to do more exercise tend to get a taste for it and up their daily quota.

Hmmm but if you add up those 15 minutes a day of exercise over a lifetime does that mean that you’ll spent those 3 extra years exercising? Sounds like a bad deal to me if that’s the case.

It turns out if you did 15 mins exercise each day for 50 years it’s the equivalent of exercising for 190 days.
